Everyone "Must" get the FASTag surrendered when buying a used car, as FASTags are non-transferable. You cannot use it for long & face various difficulties. Get in touch with the previous owner & get it surrendered in the first place then purchase a new one in your name & only then you can have a hassle free travel experience.
This could be frustrating but the only way out is to contact the previous owner & get the old tag surrendered. Because as per RBI you cannot close an account in someone else's name.
