Can I renew the Fitness certificate of my vehicle without RC as I have lost my RC and police has not given FIR copy?

You need RC to renew fitness certificate of your vehicle.

To get duplicate RC, you need to file an FIR first.

Follow the below step to file an FIR.

• Get two affidavits issued from the court/notary declaring it is lost and not deposited against Challan etc./suspended etc. Format of Affidavit is provided below.

• Get a copy of your address proof attested.

• Take one affidavit to the nearest police station wherever you lost it and request for filing the FIR. they will give you a true certified copy of the FIR lodged and keep the affidavit with them.

Once you get the copy of FIR, visit the RTO where you have registered your vehicle with the following documents.

• Filled up Form 26

• If you purchased the car or bike on loan, you will have to get the NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the bank that gave you the money.

• Copy of your vehicle insurance

• Copy of emission test paper 

• Copy of driving license.

• Pay the required amount for your duplicate smart card.

After you get the duplicate RC, you can apply for the renewal of Fitness Certificate.

• Apply for renewal of fitness certificate in Form 20. (Check Part II of the pdf for "Application for renewal of Certificate of Fitness")

• Fill up the form with the required details.

• Submit the form along with the following documents.

  • Original Registration Certificate

  • Copy of Insurance Certificate

  • Copy of Road Tax receipt

  • Copy of Pollution Under Control Certificate

  • Copy of Id and Address proof

• Pay the required fee. In the case of two-wheelers, it is INR 200.

• Produce the Vehicle in good condition for inspection at RTO

• After the inspection, if the vehicle complies with the requirements of Chapter VII of the Motor Vehicles Act, the fitness certificate will be renewed. The validity of the renewed fitness certificate is one year.
