MRP നിയമം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ Legal Metrology Rules(Prepacked commodities )2011 ന്റെ കീഴിലാണുള്ളത്. ഈ നിയമ പ്രകാരം ഉപഭോക്താക്കൾക്ക് കാണാവുന്നരീതിയിൽ പാക്കറ്റിനു മുകളിൽ വലിയ അക്ഷരത്തിൽ MRP പ്രിന്റ് ചെയ്യേണ്ടതാണ്. യാതൊരു കാരണവശാലും പ്രോഡക്റ്റിന്റെ മുകളിൽ രണ്ട് MRP വില പ്രിന്റ് ചെയ്യാൻ പാടുള്ളതല്ല. Consumer Goods Act, 2006 പ്രകാരം MRP വിലയേക്കാൾ കൂടുതൽ വില ഉപഭോക്താവിന്റെ പക്കൽനിന്നും വാങ്ങുന്നത് ശിക്ഷാർഹമാണ്. പക്ഷെ ഹോട്ടലുകളിലോ റെസ്റ്ററന്റുകളിലോ MRP യുടെ കൂടെ സർവീസ് ചാർജ് ഈടാക്കാവുന്നതാണെന്ന് സുപ്രീം കോടതി വിധി നിലവിൽ ഉള്ളതായി കാണുന്നു.
