How to change address in Voter ID card ?

Change in address happens in following cases.
- Case 1: When you want to update your address with a new address which is within the same constituency, you have to use Form 8A
- Case 2: When you want to update your address with a new address which is outside of your existing constituency, you have to use Form 6. This happens when you move from one city/state to another city/state
- Case 3: When you have some typo or clerical error in your address, you can correct it with form 8.
Case 1: When you want to update your address with a new address which is within the same constituency
Please follow the below steps to update your address in Voter ID card, when you move with in the same assembly constituency.
- Visit National Voter Service Portal
- Click on Form - 8A (Transposition within the Assembly)
- Fill details about State, District and Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency.
- Enter your name, surname, part number and serial number. Enter Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number as well.
- Mention the complete address of the new place where you have shifted within the constituency. Please do not write incomplete address as in that case it may not be possible to link the address to the relevant part of electoral roll where the entry is required to be transposed
- Upload supporting documents for address proof and your photograph
- Fill the declaration. Once you have entered all the details, click on "Submit" button.
- Now you will receive an email with a link that lets you track your voter ID application status.
- It may take around 30 days for your application to be processed and for a voter ID to be issued.
Case 2: When you want to update your address with a new address which is outside of your existing constituency
As you have moved from one state to another, your assembly constituency got changed. So you needs to update your assembly constituency in the Voter ID card. Follow the below steps to update your assembly constituency.
- Visit National Voter Service Portal
- Click on Form - 6 (Apply online for registration of new voter/due to shifting from AC)
- Fill details about State, District and Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency. As you are shifting your constituency, click on the second button.
- Enter details about name, name of relative of applicant, type of relation, your age or date of birth and gender.
The name as it should appear in the electoral roll and Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) should be furnished. The full name should be written in the first box and surname should be written in the second box. In case you do not have a surname, just write the given name. Caste should not be mentioned except where the caste name is used as part of the elector’s name or a surname. Honorific appellations like Shri, Smt. Kumari, Khan, Begum, Pandit etc. should not be mentioned. Please mention your name in English and official language of the State both, if possible.
- Enter current address where applicant is ordinarily resident.
- Enter permanent address of applicant.As you already have a voter ID card, enter EPIC number (Voter ID card number)
- Enter optional particulars, if any
- Upload your photograph
- Upload documents for proof of age and proof of address
- Fill the declaration with address of earlier place where you have a voter ID card.
- Once you have entered all the details, click on "Submit" button.
- Now you will receive an email with a link that lets you track your voter ID application status. It may take around 30 days for your application to be processed and for a voter ID to be issued.
Case 3: When you have some typo or clerical error in your address, you can correct it with form 8
Follow the below steps to update your address in Voter ID card online, due to typo or clerical error in your address.
- Visit National Voter Service Portal
- Click on Form - 8 (Correction of entries in electoral roll)
- Enter details about State, District, Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency.
Enter your name and surname.Please mention your name in English and official language of the State both
Enter part number and serial number
- Enter Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number
- Choose the field that needs to be updated. In this case, choose "Address"
- Provide your updated address.
- Upload supporting documents for change of address.
- Provide declaration
- Now you will receive an email with a link that lets you track your voter ID application status. It may take around 30 days for your application to be processed and for a voter ID to be issued.
