The Department of Agriculture was established in 1875.In the beginning, the work of this department was limited to collection of data and establishment of model farms. Agriculture department in its present shape is making continuous efforts to give pace to activity related to agriculture production with the help of different institutions, viz; UP Seed Development Corporation State Seed Certification Institute, UP council of Agriculture Research.

Objectives of UP Agriculture Portal

The main objective of the Department of Agriculture is to give pace to the growth rate of agriculture development and crop production and productivity which will strengthen the economic status of the farmers and uplift their life-style. In addition to this, the objective of the department is to implement a suitable scheme for removal of regional disparity and employment generation. Objectives of UP Agriculture are:

  • To maintain a sustainable growth rate of 5.1% in agriculture production and food safety, extension of new techniques of agriculture and settlement of agriculture related problems of the farmer.

  • Implementation of different crop production schemes and programs for growth in productivity of different crops.

  • Organization of technical demonstration through different schemes to get more production from suitable crops in different ecological circumstances and make the farmers aware of the results.

  • Implementation of running schemes and programs by the department for growth in production and productivity of different crops.

  • To ensure the supply of farm inputs to the farmers according to the time table.

  • To focus on quality control of different farms inputs which are necessary for farm productions.

  • In natural calamities like floods, droughts etc., preparation of contingency plan according to the circumstances, to provide farmers the information about right crops cycle and arrangement of necessary farm inputs accordingly.

  • To increase the farm area by treatment of water log, uncultivable and waste land of the state.

  • Continuous monitoring of successful implementation of Agricultural Policy 2013, to live up to the expectations.

  • Providing comprehensiveness to the crop insurance schemes implemented in the state to compensate the damages caused by natural calamities, insects/diseases in agricultural production.

Facilities and Grant for Farmers

  • Subsidy up to Rs 130 per kg on hybrid paddy and up to Rs 100 per kg on hybrid maize and hybrid sorghum.

  • Subsidy ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 14 per kg on selected varieties of common paddy and wheat seeds. Subsidy of Rs 40 to 45 per kg on pulse seeds and Rs 33 to 40 per kg on oilseed seeds.

  • 90 percent subsidy on sesame seeds to the farmers of Bundelkhand and 50 percent subsidy to the farmers of other areas.

  • 70 percent subsidy on 2 and 3 horse power solar pumps and 40 percent subsidy on 5 horse power solar pumps.

  • 20 to 50 percent subsidy on agricultural equipment.

  • 40 percent subsidy on Custom Hiring Center and 80 percent subsidy on Farm Machinery Bank.

  • Up to 90 percent subsidy on sprinkler sets.

  • 50 percent subsidy on agricultural defense chemicals.

  • 50 percent subsidy on grocery.

  • 50 percent subsidy on zinc sulphate.

  • 75 percent subsidy on gypsum.

  • 50 percent subsidy on micro nutrients.

  • Agri Junction Scheme for unemployed agriculture graduates.

  • Scheme of training and tours inside and outside the state for enhancing the knowledge of farmers.
