I have 2010 Swift Delhi registered, shifted to Bangalore. Got NOC from Delhi RTO, but insurance got lapsed. What will be the road tax in Bangalore and how to get a refund from my existing Delhi RTO? Will the refund be given to the original owner as I am the 2nd owner now?

To calculate the road tax to be paid in Bangalore, please use the road tax calculator provided in the below link.

Road Tax Calculator Karnataka

Once you have re-registered your vehicle in Karnataka and has paid the required road tax, you can apply for road tax refund from Delhi RTO.

For a person to successfully claim road tax refund, he or she should be the original owner of the car. Another important point to note is that during the transfer of vehicle from one state to another, the name of the owner should always be the same otherwise the road tax refund claim will be considered void.

Following documents needs to be submitted for Tax Refund

  • Car Chassis Imprint
  • New Smart Card (Notarized Copy) & Old Smart Card (Original or Notarized copy as available)
  • New Insurance Copy, PUC Copy
  • State Transfer NOC (Photocopy)
  • Road Tax Receipt as originally paid in First State where vehicle was registered
  • New Road Tax receipt photocopy as Paid
  • ID Proof with New Address Proof as Proof of Migration
  • RTO Form 16, RTO Form DT as the application for Tax Refund
  • Request letter for refund along with Bank Account Number / Address on which cheque needs to be sent

This needs to be deposited with Notarized Copies of Photocopy along with self affixed stamp with an equivalent value of Registered Post on it to the original RTO Office where the vehicle is registered.
