I got the NOC from Pune, Maharashtra and moved to Hyderabad, Telangana. I haven't re-registered my vehicle in six months in Hyderabad. So by default, that NOC is not valid now. And now, I'm transferring back to Mumbai, Maharashtra. So now what procedure do I need to follow?. Shall I get the NOC canceled from Pune RTO and keep it registered in Pune itself or should I re-register my vehicle in Mumbai RTO?

NOC needs to be cancelled from RTO in Hyderabad and not from RTO in Pune.

For canceling the NOC, you need to obtain Non-Utilization Certificate from RTO in Hyderabad stating that your vehicle is not registered there.

Non-Utilization certificate is an official statement from the RTO stating that your vehicle is not re-registered in that state.

Documents required for getting Non-Utilization Certificate are listed below.

  • A letter requesting Non-utilization certificate
  • Original RC book
  • Valid Insurance copy
  • PUC certificate copy
  • Affidavit stating that you have not registered vehicle in new state and no illegal work was done using that vehicle
  • Police verification certificate from the police commissioner office of the migrated state
  • Original NOC documents
  • ID proof

As your vehicle is still in Maharashtra, but at a different RTO, you can either get it either re-registered in Mumbai or keep the same registration itself.

Since your NOC got expired, you will have to first get it canceled, for which you might need a clarification from the RTO where you intend to register it (Hyderabad), stating that you did not register the vehicle there. You might also need a police report stating that your vehicle was not involved in any illegal activities.
