Vehicles that do not require a technical inspection before their renewal:

Through Website and Smart Apps

  • The customer enters the required information.

  • RTA verifies the insurance and the valid technical inspection of the vehicle.

  • The customer settles the required fees by credit card.

  • The customer receives the ownership certificate and the sticker through 1 of the following channels:

    • SMS or e-mail

    • Self Service Machines by entering the details of the transaction. The customer receives the service from the printer of the Self Service Machine.

    • Through the delivery service with the following fees:

      • Standard delivery 20 AED.

      • Same day delivery 35 AED.

      • Delivery within 2 hours 50 AED.

      • International delivery 50 AED.

  • The customer with an Apple device can receive the electronic ownership from the Apple Wallet through the RTA Dubai App.

Through Self Service Machines

  • The customer selects online services.

  • RTA verifies the insurance and the valid technical inspection of the vehicle.

  • The customer proceeds to the desired service and enters the vehicle's details.

  • The customer settles the required fees by credit card.

  • The customer receives the ownership certificate and the expiry sticker instantly from the printer of the Self Service Machines.

  • The customer with an Apple device can receive the electronic ownership from the Apple Wallet through the RTA Dubai App.

Through Vehicle Registration and Inspection Centres

  • The customer heads to the service provider and submits the required documents.

  • The centre inspects the vehicle.

  • The customer settles the required fees.

  • The customer receives the ownership certificate and the sticker.

Vehicles that require a technical inspection before their renewal:

Through Vehicle Registration and Inspection Centres

  • The customer heads to the centre and provides the inspection yard front desk employee with his mobile number.

  • The employee provides the customer with a link to apply for the service.

  • The customer checks through the link the token number, and the number of the inspection yard where he needs to inspect his vehicle.

  • The customer is notified of the remaining time and the service completion process inside the yard.

  • When the vehicle inspection is completed, the customer is notified to settle the inspection and vehicle renewal fees.

  • The customer settles the required fees through the link.

  • The customer receives the ownership certificate and the sticker through 1 of the following channels:

    • SMS or Email

Validity

  • 1 year.

Terms and Conditions

  • The vehicle must pass the traffic safety test.

  • The customer must insure the vehicle.

  • In the event of delay in renewing the ownership of a vehicle, the customer is required to settle late fees, based on the vehicle category and the duration of the delay.

  • The insurance is optional when renewing the ownership of a quad bike or a trailer and semi-trailer.

  • To renew the ownership of a vehicle that is outside the country, the customer must present an inspection certificate ratified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE embassy of the concerned country, and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The customer presents it at the technical inspection centres within a period of 1 month. Citizens of GCC countries are exempted from ratifying the documents.

  • Commercial companies and owners of fleets and facilities must not have any impediments or circulars on the vehicle file or the file of the company that owns the vehicle.

  • The customer can renew the ownership of a vehicle up to 150 days before its expiry.

  • The customer is required to settle all the traffic fines before receiving this service.

  • Companies can apply for this service through online channels only (same condition applies to individuals whose vehicles do not need a technical examination during the first 3 years of registration).

  • Commercial vehicles purchased from a local dealer are exempted from the technical inspection for the first year starting from the date of registration.

  • The inspection of classical vehicles must be undertaken at:

  • Re-registration terms apply in case of expired vehicle ownership.

  • If the vehicle was purchased from a local authorised agent, the vehicle is registered and renewed 3 years without a technical examination (for individuals only).

  • In case of renewing the vehicle licence few days before it expires, the validity of the ownership is calculated from the date of applying for the vehicle renewal.

As per the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology the validity of the tyres is 5 years maximum from the date of its manufacturing. If tyres are damaged, the customer must change them to pass the inspection test. Note: The customer must present a registration card to inspect the vehicle.
Is the customer required to perform the inspection test if the vehicle is new and its ownership was not renewed for 6 months?
In case of registration of a brand new vehicle bought from an authorised dealership, never preregistered, and with a valid custom certificate, it can be renewed on a yearly basis for the first 3 years without a technical test, provided that the renewal is done one day before the expiration of the registration. Note: Any change of ownership will require a technical inspection, even if done during the first 3 years.
Is the customer required to update any information when applying for this service through the online channels?
When applying for this service through the online channels, the customer must update the insurance details on the traffic system (through the insurance company) and must update the details of the vehicle inspection if necessary (through the inspection centre).
When is the customer required to inspect the vehicles registered under the company’s traffic file?
Vehicles registered under the company’s traffic file must be inspected yearly after the registration. The company can renew the ownership certificate of the vehicle 149 days before its expiry.

The ownership e-card is an electronic document called Vehicle Licence sent to the customer via email and SMS. It includes all the ownership details including the expiry date, mortgage and insurance. This e-card is issued through the service of Authenticating the Validity of an RTA Document on the RTA website and Dubai Drive application and the customer has to print it or save it on his phone to show it to concerned authorities when needed.
How can the customer print the ownership e-card or any other document in case he didn’t receive an email or he wanted to verify the vehicle details, renewal date and insurance details?
The ownership e-card may be printed through the Document Validation service, by selecting service type Vehicle Licence then entering the vehicle details to show the print order.
What details are featured on the vehicle licence?
The vehicle licence features all the details related to the vehicle including the expiry date, the mortgage and the insurance details. It is sent via email to the customer in a printable format.
How can the customer show the ownership e-card to the police patrols or officers, or the Licensing Department?
The customer shows the ownership e-card featured in RTA applications and saved on his phone, or the printed copy of the e-card.
What is required when crossing the borders to GCC or other countries?

The vehicle’s expiry date can be checked through the vehicle licence, or the SMS sent to the customer's mobile number.
