My mom filed her 2022 taxes with an expired itin. She then received a letter saying she owed money because her ITIN was expired. My question is once her itin is renewed will she get her tax credits back and will the amount due be wiped? If so how long will it take?

Yes, once the ITIN gets renewed she can get the credits. She can call IRS to get the credits applied to the tax return again once she gets the ITIN renewal notice in the mail.

I can't tell you how long this will take but probably a few months? She can call IRS and request a hold on collections, which will give her six months where she doesn't have to make any payments.

The credits should be backdated and if it's enough to cover the balance due that should take care of any penalties and interest as well.
