Bank is asking for the bank statement to verify your bank account details like account number, account holder name, branch and IFSC so that bank will write a final settlement cheque in yours's name and your bank account number written beside your name in cheque 

If you are not comfortable sharing your bank statement, you may share cancelled cheque
