For how long can I drive my Punjab no. car in Pune? What if i went on road trips outside Maharashtra in duration of 1 year will the above thing extend? I will keep the toll tax bills for proof?

If vehicle registered in Punjab is to be kept or used in Maharashtra for the period of more than a year then the vehicle needs to be registered in Maharashtra. While doing so, the NOC from original registering authority in Punjab & consent of financier (in case of loan) needed to be furnished.

You can keep the toll paid at borders of Punjab and  Maharashtra as proof of your entry to Maharashtra. This will help you to extend the period of registration by another 1 year. However, it is not advisable because

  • It is against the law and if the traffic police needs to track whereabouts of your vehicle in the past 1 year, they can get it easily.
  • Punjab and Maharashtra are not bordering States. This would have worked without much issues if you were in Haryana or Himachal Pradesh because interstate travel is much frequent in these routes.

If you are planning to re-register in Maharashtra,  you need the following documents.

  • Form 20, Form 26.
  • Form 33 Incase of change of address only.
  • Form 29, Form 30 Incase of transfer of ownership.
  • Form FT, Form AT.
  • NOC in Form 28 with chassis print affixed on it from the original registering authority along with consent from financier.
  • Form TCA, Form TCR – incase of transport vehicles only.
  • Proof of payment of entry tax in case vehicle has arrived within 30 months of date of it's first registration.
  • An affidavit from the owner of the vehicle stating that the said vehicle is not involved in any accident, theft or crime.
  • Fees.
  • All valid documents of the vehicle - Original RC, Insurance, PUC.
