You can give resignation in the company in which you are a director and the company shall your resignation in a Board Meeting and file Form DIR-12 with ROC informing about your resignation. 

You can voluntary also resign by filing Form DIR-11 with ROC resigning yourself from Directorship of the Company, in which case your name is automatically removed from the Company as a Director.
