Under Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme,the Government of Maharashtra shall provide financial incentives for families to retain a girl child, educate her, prevent child marriage and provide skill development. Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana has been implemented increase the birth rate of girls, to ban sex selection, to provide encouragement and assurance regarding education of girls, to increase the health status of girls. 

Features of Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana

Following are the features of Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana.

  • Reward for Mothers: Parents of the girl child are awarded staggered financial incentives for retaining girl child, educating girl child and ensuring proper nutrition.

  • Reward for Girl Child: At age of 18, Girl Child is provided 1 Lakh rupees for Skill Development and Higher Education which shall ensure employability and dedicated income in future provided she is not married by then.

  • Reward for Grandmother: In many families, the parents have pressure from In-Laws for a son. In order to combat that, the Paternal Grandmother shall be awarded a gold coin and certificate by Hon. Minister, WCD Dept.

  • Reward for Village: Any Village which achieves Child Sex Ratio of more than 1000 shall receive 5,00,000 award from Hon. Minister, WCD Dept. Under this scheme, Govt. will cover Girls of Above Poverty Line (APL) Families with an insurance of Rs.21,200/.

Benefits under Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana

Following are the benefits under Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana

  • Amount admissible after family planning surgery by mother/father after one girl child

    • 50,000/- only interest admissible for 6 years on an amount of Rs.50,000/- can be withdrawn by a girl at the age of 6

    • Re-investing the principal amount of Rs.50,000/- and the interest allowed for 6 years can be withdrawn at the age of 12 years.

    • Re-investing the principal amount of Rs.50,000/- with interest allowed for 6 years Both the amount can be withdrawn at the age of 18 years.

    • An amount of Rs.50,000/- will be deposited in the girl's name only after the mother/father submits the family planning surgery certificate. On the amount so deposited, the amount of interest payable by the girl child at that time will be admissible to her.

  • Amount admissible after family planning surgery by mother / father after two daughters

    • 25,000/- only interest admissible for 6 years on an amount of Rs.25,000/- can be withdrawn by a girl child at the age of 6

    • Again the monthly investment of Rs. 25,000/- can be withdrawn at the age of 12 with the interest allowed for 6 years.

    • Re-investing the principal amount of Rs.25,000/- with interest allowed for 6 years Both amounts can be withdrawn at the age of 18 years

    • An amount of Rs. 25,000/- will be deposited in the name of the girl only after the mother/father submits the family planning surgery certificate. On the amount so deposited, the amount of interest payable by the girl child at that time will be admissible to her.

Eligibility Criteria for Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana

Following are the eligibility criteria for Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana.

  • The father of the beneficiary girl child must be a native resident of the state of Maharashtra.

  • Family Income should not be more than Rs. 7.50 lakh.

  • Proof of family planning surgery by mother/father will be required to be submitted before availing the benefit of the scheme.

  • The benefit of Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Revised Yojana will be admissible to girls born on and after 1st August 2017.

  • The benefit of the scheme is not admissible if the first child is a boy and the second child is a girl or if the first child is a girl and the second child is a boy.

  • The benefit of the scheme is not admissible if the first child is a boy and the second child is a girl or if the first child is a girl and the second child is a boy.

  • In the case of a third child, the benefits of the first one/two children will also cease.

  • The principal amount invested in the fixed deposit and the interest payable thereon at the age of 18 will be admissible, the age of the girl child must have completed 18 years and must have passed the class 10th examination and the girl child must be unmarried. 

  • If twin girls are born during the second delivery, the girls will be eligible for the scheme. 

  • If a girl gets married before the prescribed period (before completing 18 years of age), or if she drops out of school before class 10 or if she fails class 10, her parents will not benefit from this scheme, the amount deposited in the bank account in the name of the girl will be deposited in the account in the name of Maharashtra Government. 

  • If the girl child dies due to natural causes, the amount invested in the girl child's name will be paid to the parents of the girl child after the expiry of the term of fixed deposit.

Documents Required for Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana

Following are the documents required for Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana.

  • Birth Certificate of the Daughter

  • Aadhar Card

  • Income Certificate of the parents

Procedure for Availing Benefit under Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana

Procedure for availing the benefit of Revised My Daughter Bhagyashree Yojana:-

  • Under the said scheme, the parents of a girl child should submit an application (as applicable) to the Anganwadi Sevaki of the area after registering the birth of the girl child with the concerned local government body in the concerned rural and urban area after the birth of the girl child for the benefit. The documents mentioned above should be submitted along with the application as per the above terms and conditions. All applications required for the said scheme will be available free of cost in the offices of each Rural and Urban Child Development Project Officer, Women and Child Development Officer, Zilla Parishad, District Women and Child Development Officer, Divisional Deputy Commissioner (Women and Child Development) in the state. The Anganwadi Sevake should fill the application form from the concerned beneficiaries (assist the beneficiaries in filling the application form as necessary) and submit the said application form to the Anganwadi Supervisor / Chief Sevaka.

  • The Anganwadi Supervisor/Chief Sevaka, after scrutinizing/inspecting the said application and the certificates, every month the Child Development Project Officers in urban and rural areas and in the case of orphans in the institution, the District Women and Child Development Officers will gather the Women and Child Development Officers, Zilla Parishad. The list should be submitted for approval. The Women and Child Development Officer (Zilla Parishad) should scrutinize the list and submit it to the bank after approving it.

  • Before submitting an application for the benefit of orphan girls in orphanages/infant homes or other residential institutions under the Women and Child Development Department, it is necessary to obtain a certificate from the concerned Bal Kalyan Samiti that the girl is an orphan and enclose it with the application.

  • The concerned Child Development Project Officer and Women and Child Development Officer, Zilla Parishad will randomly inspect any settlement with high population and after their confirmation approve the beneficiary list. Thereafter within a period of one month the Child Development Project Officer and Women and Child Development Officer, Zilla Parishad will submit the applications of the eligible beneficiaries to the Bank of Maharashtra branch for the beneficiaries to get a fixed deposit certificate of Rs.50,000/- or Rs.25,000/- as per eligibility. And the certificate obtained from the bank will be made available to the concerned beneficiary's parents through the Child Development Project Officer / District Women Child Development Officer.

  • The application form filled in by the applicant with complete details and submitted along with the above mentioned certificate of family planning surgery performed by the concerned authorities within 1 year after the birth of a girl child in case of family planning surgery on one daughter and within 6 months in case of family planning surgery on two daughters. Applications should be accepted. If the application is incomplete or not submitted with all the certificates, the applicant should be informed in writing within 15 days of receipt of the application. In case of incompletely filled applications or not attaching the necessary documents, such applicants will be given an additional one month period in addition to the above period. But under no circumstances shall any application be kept pending for more than 2 months, otherwise responsibility should be fixed on the concerned.
