Dear 

You need to visit Insurance Companies and show them his PAN card and Date of Birth . There is no  centralised system to track insurance .

Alternatively , you can discuss with his friend circle and known agents or see entries in his bank account .

You can also check his ITR if he files income tax returns and see entries of tax rebate under section 80 C .
