The certificate of permanent residence is proof of permanent residence of a person in a particular state. The Permanent Residence Certificate is issued by the Deputy Commissioner of the District as per the guidelines, procedures, time limit. The permanent residence certificate is used for admission to educational institutions. 

Eligibility Criteria to apply for Permanent Residence Certificate in Assam

  • Applicants must be Indian Citizens.

  • Parents or forefathers of the applicant have permanent residence in the state of Assam for a minimum of 50 years.

  • Applicants must be residing in the state of Assam for a minimum of 20 years.

  • If an applicant fulfils all the above eligibility, he can also apply for his/ her child.

Documents Required for Permanent Residence Certificate in Assam

The following documents are required to apply for Permanent Residence Certificate in Assam.

Mandatory Documents Required

  • Copy of the Birth Certificate issued by competent authority

  • Upload One Address proof documents of Self or Parent’s--Aadhaar Card/ Voter Card / Ration Card /Electricity Bill/LPG Bill/Passport/Bank Passbook/Driving License

  • Documents related to parents and forefathers having continuously resided in Assam for a minimum period of 50 years or Documents related to guardian having continuously resided in Assam for a minimum period of 20 years.

  • Records of Immovable Property, if any, with up-to-date Land Revenue Paid receipt.

  • Certified copy of the voters list to check the linkage

  • Copy of HSLC Certificate/Admit Card

  • Passport size photograph

Optional Documents Required    

  •   Copy of Indian Passport or Certified copy of the NRC 1951

  •   Employment Certificate issued by the employer showing joining in present place of posting, if any

  •   Copy of PRC of any member of family of the Applicant stating relationship, if any

Register on Sewa Setu portal

To apply for Permanent Residence certificate in Assam, you need to register on Assam Sewa Setu portal.

Follow the below steps to register on the Sewa Setu portal.

  • Now user will be redirected to login page. Read the instruction for Citizen related to login and registration.

  • Click on Login/Registration button.

  • Click on the Sign up for MeriPehchan link.

  • You can use RTPS registered/linked mobile number for registration. Please note that if the RTPS registered/linked mobile number is not used in e-Pramaan registration, then linking to your existing RTPS account will fail.

How to apply online for Permanent Residence Certificate in Assam ?

Follow the below steps to apply online for Permanent Residence Certificate in Assam.

  • Login to Sewa Setu portal.

  • After the applicant has logged on to the system, he/she needs to click the Apply Online tab and select the service they want to apply for and click the apply button after going through the Requirements tab.

  • Applicant has to fill up the form and upload the required supporting documents.

  • After successful submission of the form, an acknowledgement will be generated containing the application reference no.

  • Make the required payment.

  • The application is then forwarded to higher officials for further processes. The same will be notified over SMS and Email id of the applicant.

  • An applicant can view and track the status of the application by clicking the Track button and entering the applicant’s application reference no.

  • After successful submission of documents, Permanent Residence Certificate will be generated and the applicant can download it from the portal. The same will be notified to the applicant over SMS and Email.

  • Fill the application form.

  • Submit the required documents.
