How to apply for MSME registration?

MSME stands for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The MSME sector contributes to 45 percentage of India’s Total Industrial Employment, 50 percentage of India’s Total Exports and 95 of all industrial units of the country and more than 6000 types of products are manufactured in these industries.

The Government of India has devised the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006. In legal terms, the definition of micro, small and medium enterprises can be best understood as the following.

Micro-Enterprise Category:

  • The investment in plant and machinery does not exceed Rs. 25 lakh.

  • The investment in plant and machinery does not exceed Rs. 10 lakh.

Small Enterprise Category:

  • The investment in plant and machinery is more than Rs. 25 lakh but does not exceed Rs. 5 crore.

  • The investment in plant and machinery is more than Rs. 10 lakh but does not exceed Rs. 2 crore.

Medium Enterprise Category:

  • The investment in plant and machinery is more than 5 crore but does not exceed Rs. 10 crore.

  • The investment in plant and machinery is more than 5 crore but does not exceed Rs. 10 crore.

Documents Required

Any entrepreneur having valid Aadhaar Number can apply for MSME Registration Online.

Only a scanned copy of the Aadhaar card is required. Other than that no document is required for MSME Registration / SSI Registration. Only information provided in the Online Application Form is enough.

Registration Procedure

Follow the below steps to complete MSME registration procedure.

  • Visit MSME Registration portal.

  • Fill the required details.

    • Aadhaar Number : Fill 12 digit Aadhaar number issued to the applicant in the appropriate field.

    • Name of Applicant : Fill name of Applicant as mentioned on the Aadhaar Card.

    • Social Category : Select the Social Category of applicant from the given options.

    • Gender : Select the gender from provided option

    • Physically Handicapped : Select the status from provided options

    • Name of Enterprise or Business : Fill the name of Business or Enterprise which will get printed on MSME Certificate.

    • Type of Organization : Select the type of organization from the given options which will get printed on MSME Certificate.

    • PAN: Fill 10 Digit PAN Number in case of Limited Liability Partnership or Co-operative or Private Limited or Public Limited. PAN Number is optional in case of Proprietorship Firm or Hindu Undivided Family or Partnership Firm or Self Help Group

    • Location of Plant : Please fill the location address properly

    • Office Address : Please provide office address, if address other than plant location.

    • Mobile No : Fill the correct Mobile Number of Applicant

    • Mail ID : Fill the correct Mail ID of Applicant

    • Date of Commencement of Business : Fill the date of Commencement of Business which will get printed on MSME Certificate.

    • Bank Account Number : Fill the Applicant’s bank account number.

    • Bank IFS Code : Fill the Applicant Bank IFS Code. The IFS code is printed on the Cheque Books.

    • Main Business Activity of Enterprise : Select the Main Business activity from the given options.

    • NIC 2 Digit Code :Select the 2 Digit NIC Code from the given options considering your business activity.

    • Additional details about Business : Fill Additional details about business. (For example, manufacturing of Food Products, Computer programing, Software development)

    • Number of employees : Fill total number of people been employed.

    • Investment in Plant and Machinery or Equipment : Fill the total investment made in Plant, Machinery, and Equipment etc. to start your business.

    • Attachment : Attach scan copy of your Aadhaar Card.

  • Make the required payment.

  • Executive will process the application and you will receive MSME registration certificate on mail.
